“You can read mine if you’d like,” Caitlyn said. “It doesn’t have to be much either.” She watched Vi turn back to the very first page. “I just want it to be… like a conversation. Natural. Not a legal document or a formal address, just something…” She bit her lip as Vi looked at her. “Something from you.”
Even a fool could sense that shift. Caitlyn was beginning to doubt herself again.
Vi offered her wife a smile; it was anyone’s guess if her jokes landed with Caitlyn when she started to worry like this. “I’ve got this covered,” she said, nodding to the journal. “It’ll be from me. Informal and conversational, I promise.”
“Really? I mean, are you sure? I can walk you through what I wrote if that’d help.”
Shaking her head, Vi looked back at Caitlyn. “It’s fine, I gotta figure some stuff out on my own. Go, do what you gotta do, I’ll see how far I get. Don’t worry, they’re gonna know they’re loved.”

Claudette stepped closer, her eyes narrowing slightly. “What happened out there?” she asked, her voice soft but serious.
Meg swallowed hard. She didn’t want to talk about it—not yet. She didn’t even fully understand it herself. But Claudette was her friend, and she could see through her like glass.
“I… I don’t know,” Meg admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. “It was like…”
Claudette tilted her head, encouraging her to continue.
“It was like she wanted me,” Meg said, trying to find the right words. “Huntress, I mean. Like everything about her was different—her scent, her actions—was… different.” She shook her head, feeling the weight of her own words. “I can’t explain it, but she has never acted like that towards me before …”Claudette took a step forward, a frown tugging at her lips. “What does that mean Meg, what did she do?”
“I couldn’t escape. Even when I did, it was like a game,” Meg muttered. “Like she wanted to hunt me down and own me.”
