Summary
Jiang Cheng's heart trembled, as memories he'd tried to repress flooded back to him. He knew the two missing pieces that echoed between him and Nie Huaisang. One was dead and gone by Jiang Cheng's own hands, the other destroyed in the wake of those actions.
He was haunted by those memories, after all.
Cold nights in Nie Huaisang's courtyard, kisses shared by a river, words buried under the sound of rushing water. There had been four of them then, around that table in Gusu, on the old Lotus Pier that burned with the last of Jiang Cheng's happiness, at the peace table that cost him more than the actual war. Four people sitting together, in understanding of something they were never able to put into words.
And where did it leave them now? Wei Wuxian was dead. Lan Wangji hadn't been seen since then, only vicious anger left between them. It was only Nie Huaisang who returned to Jiang Cheng now.
