    Summary

Elsa has been crying, too. It’s obvious. There’s damp stains at her collar and on her gloves and it doesn’t take a genius to guess it, really. But she stands with her shoulders back and chin level to the floor, as if it were all part of some plan, as if everything were under control. She looks at Anna, her eyes lingering before being pulled along, snagging in the strangest of places; the length of her auburn hair, the streak of white she had developed at one side. Her mouth opens, closes. Behind her the room is dim and their parents are silent.

There is a story, somewhere, of an almost-finished wall. Of a bargain and a betrayal and a defense that was very nearly perfect.

Nearly has never been so hopeful a word.
