The silence stretched. Neil did not fidget. He maybe fidgeted a little.
“Staring,” he said, trying for monotone and landing somewhere around accusing.
The corner of Andrew’s mouth twitched. He glanced at Neil’s scarred hands where they gripped Neil’s scarred knees (covered by jeans, but Neil felt as though Andrew could see the scarring anyway).
“Guilty. So. Why are you here?” he asked, tone just shy of uncomfortably blunt.
Neil thought that his customer service could use some work. He was getting the sense that maybe Andrew was a bit of an asshole. Normal Neil would not have been put at ease by this fact, but Neil was unfortunately about 500 miles from Normal on a good day.
“I’m here to get a tattoo?” Neil replied snidely.
