Summary
It wasn’t a slow realization, Buck thinks. It came full force, before he even fully understood what was going on and who he is now.
It hit him then, staring at his lifeless body in a hospital bed, hearing a blaring alarm and listening to it flatline. Watching his family realize he isn’t coming back.
At one point, he realized he couldn’t cry. His eyes burn, but no tears can fall.
It hit him full force then, and it hasn’t stopped since.
The thing is, he knows about grief. He understands it, has seen it, lived it. But never like this.

Summary
Ned nods back and aims his water gun at the spider. “One…two…three…Go!”
Together, they start shooting. After a few blasts of water, the spider falls.
“Keep shooting!” Ned whisper-shouts as he leans forward to turn on the faucet.
Peter edges forward, watching as the spider spirals down the drain.
They let it run for several seconds before Ned turns it off. The room stands silent as they stare at the drain. Before they know it, Peter starts cackling, slapping at his thigh as his back falls into the wall. His laughter sets Ned off and, before they know it, they’re both on the floor giggling like little kids.
Or:
Where Peter’s family reminds him that they will always have his back.

Summary
With a curious tilt of the head, Peter carefully untied the bow; peeling it off and setting it aside, separating the top from the bottom, looking down at the black fabric sitting pillowed on white tissue paper. He set the box in his lap, pulling the fabric out and resting it in his hands.
Socks. The black fabric is cut into the shape of two tiny little socks — ones that are way, way too small to fit his feet.
Something settled in him, heavy in his gut. Something like deep knowing, understanding; serious and confident; a resolution and acceptance with a tiny dash of shock and confusion. “Wha- uh..?”
...She splayed her free, shaky hand against his cheek, watching his rapidly blinking eyes, “I’m pregnant. We’re going to have a baby.”
Or:
An AU in which Peter Parker, in his ever-growing list of “Wanting-to-be-and-do's,” never imagined that at the meager age of seventeen, he would be a father.ON HIATUS. NEXT UPDATE WHEN THE REST IS WRITTEN.

This series is inspired by the quote "United we stand, divided we fall."

Summary
“And it always—I always get all red and stupid when he smiles that way—”
“I'm aware,” Hen cuts in.
“And I just had all these feelings. I had to tell someone, and I can't tell Buck or Chris, and I want you to actually stay my friend, so.”
“So you told the biggest newspaper in the country.”
Eddie sighs. “Second biggest,” he says, one of the many things Buck has taught him over the years. “But that's—yeah. That's definitely a thing I did.”

Summary
“Sorry,” Eddie says suddenly, with a little frown between his eyebrows that makes Buck’s next breath come in a wheeze. “I didn’t even ask if you’re okay. Any anxiety? Shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat?”
“Not—uh,” Buck coughs, trying so hard to say something normal, but against his best efforts, what comes out is: “Not because of the elevator.”
Eddie’s eyebrows climb up his forehead.
“I’m not claustrophobic, is what I mean,” Buck says, but the damage has been done. “Just, you know.”

Summary
“I’m in Abby’s house!” Buck whispers urgently to the phone and the busyness on the other side of the line stops. “And she’s here!”
Eddie doesn’t answer right away. Buck gets it, it’s fucking crazy. His brain hasn’t shut off since he woke up. Eddie deserves some time.
“And…?”
Out of all the things that Eddie could’ve said, that was the least likely in his head. He brings the phone away from his ear to make sure he called the right person because that is not how Eddie would react. Eddie hates Abby – Buck knows he hates Abby no matter how poorly he tries to hide it. Eddie’s never been particularly good at his hiding his disdain for Buck’s girlfriends, and now when Buck needs him to ratchet it up to eleven?
Nowhere to be found. Eddie has put Buck on a raft and pushed him out to sea.
“What do you mean, ‘and?’” Buck hisses in the phone. “That’s not enough life changing information for you?”
“Buck, why would it be life changing to be sleeping at the house you own with your wife?”
*
Or, Buck thinks too hard about couches, his past relationships, and the stupid alarm that just won’t shut up.

Summary
“No getting out of it now.” Bobby’s steady voice makes him flinch.
“We literally haven’t moved.”
“You could run,” Bobby says with a shrug. “But then you’d have to deal with Athena.” He steps into the RV.
Turning around, Buck sees Athena standing at the doorway, her hand still in the air. When she catches his eye, something in her expression shifts. He’s seen that expression before. Typically, she uses it on people who are about to flee arrest.
I fucking dare you.
Sighing, Buck gets on the RV.
*
After a call that is almost his last, Buck is having a hard time. He’s avoids his family, his friends, and everything in between. When Bobby suggests they go on a road trip, he almost laughs. But what’s worse? He actually says yes.
Or: The Post 5A recovery road trip fic literally no one asked for, but I wrote anyway.

Summary
When Buck sees Bobby and Athena wearing "Free Dad Hugs" and "Free Mom Hugs" shirts as the 118 preps for this year's LA Pride Parade, he finds himself wondering if Bobby and Athena see him as a son just as much as he sees them as parents.
Maybe he could still hug them and blame the T-shirts?
