Then Stiles hears the growl, familiar and furious.
“Oh shiitake mushrooms,” Stiles groans, turning around. “Heeeeey Derek. Isn’t it a little past your bedtime?”
Derek looks as pissed as Stiles has ever seen him and it kind of gives him a little bit of satisfaction, so he snuggles closer to Ricky. Derek bares his teeth at them, thankfully still human and his nostrils flare wildly.
“You’re drunk,” Derek accuses him flatly.
“You’re drunk,” Stiles tells Derek nonsensically.
“This is the ‘not boyfriend’ I’m guessing?” Ricky looks down at Stiles, eyebrow cocked.
Derek full on snarls at that and for the first time in forever, Stiles starts to worry he might lose control of the shift.

“Draco,” Harry breathed, stepping forward. “I have been in love with you since the moment you offered me your biscuit when we were five.”
Draco snapped his head up, breath rattling in his chest. “What?” He himself hadn’t realized his feelings till a few years ago.
“Or maybe it was when you snuck out of your house when we were nine and you declared that you would use your inheritance to buy me the world.” Draco felt his ears heat up and he wished Harry would stop.
Harry took a step closer. “Perhaps it was when I gave you my dirty old jacket and you smiled so beautifully that I slipped and fell.”

The problem with the multiverse, is that there are infinite possibilities. Stiles is tired. He’s been at this for a long, long time. It took years to master the power to traverse universes, and Stiles is putting a lot of faith in that he’ll find Derek again– a year of his life per shot, as is.

And he didn’t disagree, there was something in the way that Derek moved through the motions, a boldness and confidence that communicated pure strength. But it also had an elegance to it that always left Stiles staring, completely enraptured whenever he saw him dance. And this time was no different.
Derek gestured him to come closer and he went easily. “You’re Odette.”
“Excuse me?” Stiles arched an eyebrow and Derek rolled his eyes.
“Do you want me to show you, or not?”
Stiles huffed and muttered, “This doesn’t feel emasculating at all.” Under his breath, but put himself in position in front of Derek as asked. He squinted when he saw Derek trying to hold off a grin from his reflection in the mirror. “You’re an asshole.” Stiles told him and Derek gave up all pretences, grinning widely at him. ]

Summary
Derek doesn’t even know when Stiles went from someone he once considered an ally to someone he goes to lunch with on a regular basis to someone who was able to look at Derek and just know him. Somewhere between all the supernatural threats and complicated relationship drama in the pack, Stiles figured out a way to tear down the brick walls Derek had put up after Kate. And Derek didn’t stop him -- hadn’t even wanted to.
Somehow, Stiles had graduated from a casual friend to his best friend to the-boy-Derek-shall-forever-pine-after-because-he’s-a-chicken-shit.
