Summary
There aren't many things that Wei Ying is certain of in life. Most days, he's not certain of even himself. But Lan Zhan has always been an exception to that. His level ground, unbudged through the worst of storms. Lan Zhan is the one certainty that keeps him grounded, the pillar Wei Ying leans on when the world feels like it's running away from him.
And all of a sudden, his level ground felt titled. It was shaky and unbalanced.
Wei Ying wasn't used to sharing Lan Zhan.
Wei Ying performs a loyalty check for funsies. Lan Zhan accidentally flirts with Yiling Laozu.

Summary
Lan Qiren would like to not be in this situation. There are too many absurdities to contend with at the same time, and Lan Qiren is determined to blame every last one of them solely on Wei Wuxian. Among aforementioned absurdities, in no particular order, are:
A loudly braying donkey.
A surprisingly even louder Lan Jingyi, wrangling said donkey while making a valiant yet futile effort to avoid swearwords – both of which Lan Qiren intends to reprimand him for as soon as his life returns to some semblance of sanity.
The entire fact that said donkey requires wrangling in the first place due to the ill-advised end-goal being to transport the animal via sword.
The fact that this means that Lan Qiren is left to wrangle the demonic-cultivating, donkey-owning, exonerated menace of the entire cultivation world in general and Lan Qiren’s existence in particular, Wei Wuxian.
Yes, this is all Wei Wuxian’s fault.
Or: Wei Wuxian is injured on a night hunt, and Lan Qiren is stuck having to deal with it.

Summary
Wei Ying sees him through the flowers and silk and his heart whispers, oh. There you are.
It is there in one moment and then gone in the next, just a fleeting hint of recognition, relief that spreads through his chest with intensity that makes his knees wobble. There is a beautiful man at his sister’s wedding and he is looking at Wei Ying as if he has been struck speechless and something about the curve of that man’s bowed lips, the molten gold of his eyes, the way his throat bobs and his jaw slackens—it feels like coming home.

When Wangji was eighteen he’d walked into the first class of his fall semester painting module and there’d been a boy in a hilariously ugly floppy knit hat sitting cross-legged on the floor at the front of the room. He’d had a sheet of canvas paper taped to his board and his board clamped between his legs and a tackle box of brushes and tubes—a real fishing tackle box, with a fish-shaped logo on it that said BASS, not one of the nice art supply storage boxes they sold in the campus bookstore, like the one Wangji was carrying—open beside him. Everyone else had settled into the rows of stools and easels, but that boy had stayed on the floor for the whole two hour and thirty minute studio. Wangji had looked at him and thought, that idiot’s back is going to hurt.
[Former best friends Lan Wangji, paintings conservator, and Wei Wuxian, art handler, meet again and realize... neither of them were actually in unrequited love.]
