And once again, Hermione’s brain was gone. Off. In the gutter. Derailing itself with horrifying efficiency.
No.
She tore her eyes away, mentally superimposing the image of her grandfather at Christmas – spectacularly pissed, stark bollock naked under a tartan robe, arguing with the angels in the tree. Still not enough. So she added the memory of that one chapter in Magical Maladies and Their Management, the one with close-up photos of Spattergroit pustules. That did the trick.
Refreshed, centred, pure of thought, she cleared her throat and continued the tour.
Or: Bellatrix Lestrange is supposed to stop committing crimes. Hermione Granger is supposed to stay impartial. Neither of them is very good at following instructions. There’s a dead man, a collapsing investigation, and a rapidly collapsing sense of professional distance.
(Works both as a sequel to Of Magic, Mayhem and Poor Decisions and as a standalone if you don’t like slow buildings.)

Suddenly, she didn’t know whether she wanted to punch the woman or melt into her. Or perhaps, show Bellatrix with her teeth exactly what she thought of her wretched philosophy.
Or:
Hermione Granger returns to Hogwarts to complete her final year, believing the war is behind her – until someone goes missing and her only lead is the infuriatingly uncooperative Bellatrix Lestrange. Their partnership is doomed to explode… though not quite in the way she expects.

To protect the wizarding world, Bellatrix and Hermione put their relationship on pause so Bellatrix can go undercover with the Death Eaters and Hermione with the Order.

"How dare you," Bellatrix seethes. "You don't know me. You've no idea of the things I endured to ensure Riddle lost. Just because my consequences have been private instead of plastered all over the Prophet does not mean there were no consequences."Hermione can feel the mark buzzing, pulsing, beating in time with the veins at her temples. She can sense its malevolence feeding off of her resentment, looping back around and fueling her anger in turn, but doesn't even try to differentiate between her own anger and the negative emotions ebbing out of the curse itself. Hermione is fully aware that her face has twisted into a vicious, hateful sneer; she can see how surprised Bellatrix is to see such an expression on her. The hatred from the mark pours into her, fills her veins, demands to be spoken aloud.
"Whatever those consequences were," Hermione whispers with enough open malice to power a sanity-shattering Crucio if she'd wanted to cast one, "they weren't enough."
