Summary
It all kicks off when James gets into one of his passionate disagreements with Coach. You know, the kind with arm flailing, dramatic sighs, and maybe a thrown water bottle or two. And then, Coach—clearly one breath away from a breakdown—drops the ultimate punishment:
“That’s it, enough! You WILL train your technique. You’re lacking balance, precision… EVERYTHING! And I’m putting you, Potter, with Black" (okay, maybe not with those exact words, but)Cue dramatic pause. Cue collective gasp. Cue existential crisis.
James’s soul leaves his body. On Regulus's side, he nearly drops his annotated copy of Kafka when his own coach lands the terrific news. And somewhere in the distance, the universe cackles.

Summary
After Lily dies saving Harry from Voldemort, Halloween 1981, James moves in to Grimmauld Place with Sirius to get help raising Harry on his own and to process his grief. He is trying his best to wrestle with his guilt, single parenting, and what his role is now that the war is over.
Regulus, after destroying all of the horcruxes and killing Voldemort, effectively ending the wizarding war, asks Sirius for a place to stay (hard being homeless and a famous war hero inevitably).
