Summary
Peter hatte Bob in den letzten Wochen so wenig gesehen, wie eigentlich noch nie in ihrer jahrelangen Freundschaft. Er konnte nicht mit Sicherheit sagen, wer wem schließlich aus dem Weg gegangen war. Vielleicht auch beide dem jeweils anderen. In der Zentrale hatten sie sich gesehen, klar. Wenn sie im Auftrag eines Klienten unterwegs gewesen waren natürlich auch. Doch sobald sie sich voneinander verabschiedet hatten, verschiedenen Spuren nachgegangen waren oder die gemeinsamen Ermittlungen für den Tag beiseite gelegt hatten, trennten sich ihre Wege. Beide kamen mit ihrem eigenen Auto zu den Verabredungen. Die gemeinsamen Abende am Strand, bei sich zu Hause, sogar zu dritt auf dem Schrottplatz, waren ausgeblieben. Wenn Justus etwas in dem Verhalten seiner beiden Detektivkollegen aufgefallen war - und so wie Peter Justus kannte war es das mit Sicherheit - so sagte er nichts. Peter hatte das Gefühl, dass sich das mit seinem Eintreffen im Krankenhaus ändern würde.
Oder: Während Peter surfen geht, bekommt Bob einen Schlag auf den Kopf, um Peter zu helfen - und vielleicht wieder zu ihm zu finden.

Bob zögerte. War er unglücklich verliebt? Unerwidert, das, ja. Aber dennoch konnte er sich nicht dazu durchringen, seine Gefühle für Peter als unglücklich zu bezeichnen. Dafür fühlte es sich viel zu schön an, in Peters Nähe zu sein, Erlebnisse und Gedanken mit ihm zu teilen. Sein Freund zu sein.

Als ob das Ende der Highschool-Zeit und der Wechsel ans College nicht schon Herausforderung genug sind, muss Bob sich auch noch in seinen besten Freund verlieben.
