    Summary

“I was never going to hit you, Hollander!” Ilya blurted out, eyes shining. “You make fool out of me. And worse…” he took a sharp breath, his hands finding his temple. “And worse is, you hit me.”

The words hung between them, heavy and ugly.

Shane’s breath caught in his throat. He wanted so badly to reach for Ilya, cling to him like an anchor.

“I waited,” Ilya continued, voice shaking now, his control beginning to crack. “I waited for you to stop. I waited for you to look at me like you recognized me. You didn’t.”

    Summary

It’s dark, and Ilya’s not quite sure where he is.

His entire body is numb. His shoes are soaking wet from trudging lazily through the snow. His nose is running, and his lips are chapped.

Selfishly, he wishes Shane would fuss over him now. Pull him close, whisper “I forgive you” even though he shouldn’t, because Ilya would never change, because something inside him- in his family line, in his soul- was broken.

Ilya wondered how long ago it had clicked- when Shane had realized that Ilya wormed his way into this country and tricked the Hollanders into caring for him, then returned the favor by botching their language and leaving a trail of mess in his wake. He still can't help but wonder if that will be part of his punishment- being doomed to miss him in death, too.

or: Ilya’s mostly been able to cope with the fact that he’ll never be able to articulate himself fully in this country- but he’s also never been good at talking about feelings in the first place.

"I'm tired" is the best he's got. It definitely doesn't capture what's going on in his head, and Shane can't read minds.

    Summary

Night fell in Grimmauld Place like a thick black cloak. Looking at it, all looked still. But within, if you were watching closely, if you listened very carefully, you found that the fabric really covered very little. It was more the darkness you had to get through.

    Regulus was listening.

THIS IS A LONG FIC WITH A LOT OF HEADCANON. We start before Sirius and Regulus are even in Hogwarts and I literally have plot planned through the war. We explore characters in depth. You're going to hate and love (but mostly love) every single character in the fic by the end if I've done my job correctly. Well. Except for a few of them. We don't play apologetics for child abuse here. If you like it, please tell me. If you don't, please write your opinion down on a piece of paper, then burn it :)

    Summary

    He picked up pace. “Hey—Reg!”
Still nothing. The bastard was ignoring him.
James turned a corner—and stopped dead.
Regulus was standing in the middle of an abandoned classroom, breathing like he’d just run a marathon. His back hit the wall with a thud. And then again. And again.
James blinked. His fury evaporated so fast it left him dizzy.

Or: James sees his "Most Hated Enemy" and decides that Soft Domming him into selfcare is the move
