It has been over a year since the ice. A year since the sickness, the dying, a year since he bled himself dry and lived in spite of it, with nothing — nothing left — except Edward, all hollow eyes, shattered pieces, and devotion. One thinks Thomas would be used to independence by now.
A man becomes accustomed to many things without realizing it; like falling asleep, he settles into remembered rhythms, a role so comfortable he is loath to step out of it. After a while, he finds he does not know how. He does not know remember he is, outside of the person he’s become.
That's alright. Edward doesn't have to worry about anything… so long as Thomas can keep him.
