What if there was another daughter, taken in by Dutch. Would she be able to see through his bullshit, unlike Arthur and John (and the rest of the gang)? How would Dutch treat her? Can she overcome her struggles with femininity, expectations, and the danger of life as a young outlaw? Also she's a lesbian because I said so. Future lesbian hijinks. Dutch and Hosea struggle with their relationship while co-parenting. Susan's attempts to tame the girl prove impossible. Arthur's a mean older brother.
I wrote this because I love women and I want better for them. Kind of a character study. I've already written the whole thing, posting chapters in chunks when I feel like it.

How will their shifting affections affect, in turn, the motley family they've built?

This is a new prequel to the events of Red Dead Redemption 2, featuring an OC, Dutch's daughter Emmylou "Lou" Van der Linde.A heads-up that I did write a short with Dutch's daughter in it a while back ("Three Protégés", in the Bellicose collection, but this one will be different. Mostly romance, some darker themes coming in (can't help myself). Definitely 18+!

After sneaking out of Chicago following havoc they may have inadvertently caused, the gang move from bustling Illinois to the prairie fields of northern Kansas and are in need of money. Looking for honest work to keep his hands clean as a newcomer of the state, Arthur gets a job at Old Stone Ranch, owned by one esteemed but covetous and dour entrepreneur and businessman, Henry Gillis. What Arthur soon learns is that the ranch is a family business set to pass down to Gillis’ eldest child, Mary, who Arthur takes a liking to. As the duo from two different worlds get closer and closer, Arthur is forced to reflect on where his loyalties lie: can he fight and change for the woman he loves despite all odds, or continue giving in to the outlaw life he has been moulded to fit into?

Arthur had never set foot in one of those highfalutin society shindigs, and even now, the appeal escaped him. His idea of a good time involved poker and whiskey. However, Agatha’s joy was infectious, and against his will, he pictured her spinning in that barn, dressed like some storybook lady.
In his mind’s eye, the scene was empty of others — just her, laughing in lamplight. Yet, reality wouldn’t be so kind. Those cocky ranch hands would be there, swaggering in their Sunday best. Finally, I’ve written this with time appropriate American states, territories, and habits as I combine the fictional world and map of RDR2 into the real 1800s american west to the best of my ability.
