    Patroclus has seen kids play volleyball countless times during class, and yet, before he started coming here every evening, he’d never seen anything quite like this.

    He passes the court, glancing sideways at the kids and Achilles, the golden-haired boy, the one that is instantly surrounded by classmates the moment the game is over, the one whose smile makes blood run to Patroclus’ cheeks.

    He could wish the boy would smile at him like that one day, but he’s smarter than that. It won’t happen, not to the likes of Patroclus.

    And for now, he’s strangely okay with that.
