Driving up to the entrance of Fort Meade your sharp eyes slide over the metal fencing surrounding the base. Three armed guards stand watch with rifles at the barriers blocking the width of the road, and you shake out the momentary nerves flashing through your chest.
“This is a stupid plan.” Natasha warns through the phone pressed to your ear.
“What on Earth is wrong with you people?” You stress, much to Natasha dismay, “This is a great plan.”
You hear Sam’s echoing sigh through the speaker and you fight back a snigger, “You’re only saying that because it’s your damn plan.”
“Exactly, and I’m a genius,” You reply, fishing around clumsily in the glove box for your ID card, “I expect this to be taken into account when I apply to be an Avenger.”
“I keep telling you, you’re not going to be an Avenger.” Natasha says, voice stern and clipped at the edges.
“I’ll fly away in the suit myself and leave you all here, don’t test me.”
