Summary
Sirius Black was well known for many character-defining attributes. Ask the general population of Hogwarts, they may say that he is attractive, brash, loud, or maybe obnoxious. His family would tell you that he doesn’t know when to leave well enough alone, that he has an infuriating inability to do what he’s told, and that he likely won’t amount to anything they have set forth for him. But if you ask those truly close to him, they would tell you that he is kind, that he tries harder than anyone to be a good friend, even if he misses the mark a time or two. They would also tell you that he is intensely loyal, maybe even to a fault.
Or
What if the Black Brothers never drifted apart, and instead, because of Sirius’s steadfast loyalty and desire to protect his brother, he takes the mark so that Regulus will never have to? Well, at least that’s what the goal was. Everything else that happens because of that is good old-fashioned consequences of his own actions.
