Putting aside platitudes about the great expansive, transformative power of knowledge, there were precious few ways to truly transcend the strict borders imposed by frame, form, flesh. Most of them were occult. Many of them were too costly to justify in all but the most desperate circumstances. This, Enki thought, was a new one: consumption.
