Herbert turned back to the suitcase, folding another dress shirt and placing it inside. "I will, however, be leaving town for a few days."
"Oh?" Dan leaned against the doorframe. "And why might that be?"
"It's not relevant." Dan simply fixed him with a stern stare, and finally Herbert relented. "My parents asked me to come home. It's my brother's birthday, and for some reason they feel that I need to be there."
"Oh." That wasn't quite what Dan was expecting. He'd heard Herbert reference his family before, of course, but he never thought they were still in contact. Judging from the sour look on Herbert's face, he wished they weren't.

Herbert doesn't know what home is, and has never really taken to the concept. Every house he's ever lived in has simply been a place where he resides. And he's never lived anywhere long enough to know the call of home.
Dan teaches him that home is a feeling, and a person can feel like home.
