She followed them, to keep Peter alive, to deny the universe's next attempt at telling her she deserved nothing. She needed to plunge deeper into his self... to the point they become one and his heart and blood trick themselves into thinking they beat and circle for her...
She told herself she's not invading his mind, just his everything else. She will not dig around for anything. Just here to keep her savior alive... He hadn't been expecting anyone.
He pushed himself away from the desk and made his way toward the door. When he opened it, he was met with a sight that left him momentarily speechless.
Surprise came first.
Then relief.
After weeks of searching for her, Peter had never imagined that Jean would be the one to find him.
Yet there she was, standing on his doorstep.
She wore what she seemed to favor most—a loose, oversized jacket with the hood pulled over her head, casting most of her face into shadow. Still, Peter could see enough to know that she looked well.
Better than he had expected, considering everything that had happened.
For a few seconds, neither of them said anything.
Peter simply stood there, taking her in, trying to convince himself that she was really standing in front of him.Jean finally broke the silence.
