There were a few things holding Amber Stevens together over the last couple of years, one of them being a stress ball she found in her jacket months after seeing that tree blocking the road. She had no idea where it came from. She had also refused to believe that it was particularly significant.
It was a stress ball. Not a message from the universe. Not evidence of anything. She had squeezed it, inspected it, cut a tiny piece from the bottom to see what it was made of, and eventually decided it was made of some kind of synthetic rubber. Mystery solved.
She kept it anyway.
Especially in a town where memories could be wiped, trees moved, monsters smiled, and every road eventually looped back to where you started.Or, in which a scientist was on the brink of losing hope before two cars arrived in town on the same day.
