Summary
He’s trying. Diona knows that. Knows how hard it is to cut off alcohol from the body as every part of it burns for more. As a bartender, she's had more than enough first hand encounters. She...appreciates his efforts.
But sometimes, he slips up, and the hours after are the worst. Diona wants to scream herself hoarse because she’s a kid, and she shouldn't have to take care of him while he’s in his drunken sleep, or when he's throwing up his intoxication. Nor should she be the one to clear away his mistake so Diona can avoid his stricken expression that she knows he deserves but hurts too much to look at.
Not that it mattered, she thinks bitterly, then guiltily and bitterly again. No amount of screaming and nagging and chastising worked before.

Because now, of all things, she thinks about enduring vows and broken promises, soured by foul and violent influences that are impossible to keep count. She thinks of risks, of homes carved from hands clasped together, and the possibilities that tempt her.

Summary
If she was selfish, Jean would tell her about the heavy burdens weighing on her shoulders and the doubts gnawing away at her, and the little annoyances that she needs to vent out with only a little bit of heat behind her words.
She would tell Lisa how breakfast with her rights all the wrongs in the world. That their tea breaks and city patrols together were the much-needed pause on the ever-rushing tide of time, and how she feels at home under the blankets Lisa sometimes placed on her shoulders whenever Jean fell asleep on top of her paperwork, deep in slumber until morning when eggs on toast and a freshly brewed cup of coffee would greet her like old friends.
And when she is done, Jean would listen to Lisa in return, soaking up all that she has to say like roses in sunlight.

Summary
There aren't many instances where Amber is rendered speechless. She openly expresses everything she felt or thought, and her honesty was something she was proud of. With Eula, it's no different. But sometimes, Amber can't help but short-circuit around her, losing the ability to blurt out whatever was racing around her mind. Instead, she silently replays Eula's words, rewinds the moment, and devotedly commits them to memory.

Summary
Buck kisses Eddie on a sunday night.
It's 8:53 p.m. and Buck presses Eddie against his own front door. Their lips smash together in rushed breath and salty tears. An explosion of emotion bursts inside Bucks chest.
It's still 8:53 when Buck pulls away and sees a conflicted look in Eddie's eyes- the mans hands on his shoulders, almost awkward. Dread, bone deep and fucking terrifyingly intense makes his stomach drop.
“I-” a pained look, a hand pressed into lips, “Give me a few days. I'm not…” a gulp. “I'm not leaving, just… let me figure some stuff out, okay?”
At 8:53 pm on a sunday, and it's the beginning of the end, as the door gets shut in face.
---
Or: Buck acts like Christopher's dad and it makes Eddie realize a few things.

Summary
Eddie is - he’s straight, okay? And Buck is way past wanting things he can’t have…way past begging for scraps of affection and attention and love. He refuses to ever be that person again, even for Eddie. So. So Eddie wasn’t in love with Buck, and Buck wasn’t - isn’t, can’t be - in love with Eddie, and all of this is just. It’s ridiculous. Impossible. Unbelievable.
“I’m not in love with my best friend,” Buck says, but the words feel strange in his mouth.

Summary
“Here,” Buck had said, practically shoving his phone at Eddie once Eddie had said hello to both Buck and Chris and settled into a chair at the dining table, “I wrote down everything so I wouldn’t forget.” Eddie looked curiously at the screen to find Buck’s note app open to a long, long list of messages. There was a grocery list of things he needed at the top, but it soon devolved into any thing or thought that Buck had while Eddie was gone that he, apparently, wanted to tell him.
or: whenever Eddie's away, Buck writes him a new note, and Eddie pines.

Summary
“Those couldn’t’ve been cheap,” Eddie says. “Do we need to talk about your spending habits?”
Buck lets out a soft huff of laughter. “What are you, the flower police?”
“No, no,” Eddie says, shaking his head, his hair brushing against the side of Buck’s face. “If you wanna spend your hard earned money on fancy ass flowers, I’m not gonna stop you.” He nuzzles into Buck’s neck, his stubble scratching against his skin.
“It’s nice,” he says, his voice muffled. “No one’s ever bought me flowers before.”
Buck copes with unrequited love by maladaptive daydreaming, buying Eddie flowers, and lying to the farmers market vendor about his imaginary husband.
