Fast as anything, Eren deflates. He closes his eyes and it’s like all of the tension has been sucked out of the room, like Armin got his hearing back without ever realizing it’s been gone. He can suddenly hear the distant beeping and dripping in the clinic again.
“It’s easy to forget, you know. That not everyone is.”
“I will never be your enemy,” Armin says, quiet, as he finishes patching Eren up. “Not ever. Not even if everyone else is.”

Inseparable since childhood, Armin and Eren were known as “those guys” around Maria Fritz Gymnasium. Those guys that were just a little more touchy than other teenagers. Just a little more open about their bond, and a little too uninterested in girls to just be friends.
Eren could only laugh at those rumours. So what if his best friend was into guys, and so what if Eren wasn’t. He liked girls, but they wouldn’t get in between their friendship. Which was precisely why they made a pact; to never let any girlfriend or crush ruin their bond.
