Summary
Over time, they begin to grow tired. They wake later, start yawning earlier, and get less done during the days. Vessel sees their exhaustion and irritation grow and knows it’s almost time. He remembers the way he seemed to get worn down, too, until he could no longer leave his bed – he hadn’t exactly feared death, then, but had almost expected its quiet knock on his door. Now that he knows it’s not death coming to call, but transfiguration, he can make preparations with a heart less heavy.

Summary
Finally, when they’ve been quiet for a while and the twilight has taken over the sunroom enough that its corners are little nests of pure darkness, Cheng Xiaoshi asks, “What’s on your mind?”
Lu Guang inhales, but doesn’t answer for a while. His fingers twitch a little, as if he means to pull them away at the question, but when Cheng Xiaoshi gives his hand another squeeze, he resettles.
“I’m happy you’re alive, Cheng Xiaoshi,” Lu Guang finally says, in that voice that Cheng Xiaoshi has only heard a few times and only when it’s just them two.

Summary
The cauldrons in all the childhood fairytales he remembers were these huge things that filled half a room and could fit several misbehaving children in them. This one, however, is tiny, smaller than the ceramic teapot at his and Brett’s apartment. It sits on the countertop, on a little ashtray that’s apparently home to a magical flame. He’d stupidly blurted out that he’d expected a cauldron large enough to stand in, and the hag had laughed.
“Silly boy. I’m not heating up the big one for one little potion.”
Great. He’s doing something morally reprehensible, and he’s being an idiot about it.

Summary
“You want to talk to people about me?” Shane asked quietly.
There was something small and confused in the question. But Ilya was still furious and raw.
“Well I would,” he sneered, “if there was anything about you that was fucking interesting to talk about! It would be nice to not be so fucking bored and miserable!”
The second the words left his mouth, he watched the pain roll across Shane's features like a thousand fractures shattering through glass.
Ilya had seen Shane nearly break ribs. He had seen him miss game-winning shots, take hits that left bruises blooming purple and black across his skin. He had never seen this.
Shane closed his eyes for a long moment. He shook his head slightly, a tiny movement, then nodded once as if agreeing with something only he could hear. His face twisted briefly with a fresh wave of pain before he forced it to still.

What if Shane and Ilya don't make up so easily after the Boxing Day fight? The Centaur's plane never malfunctions, so Shane never proposes. Instead, Ilya gives him an ultimatum on coming out and going public. It backfires spectacularly.

Summary
The Swiss National League doesn’t care about the legendary Hollander-Rozanov rivalry. When the MLH can’t negotiate with the Hockey Players’ Union in time to prevent a hockey lockout at the start of the 2015 season, the Zürich Lions jump at the chance to sign both Shane and Ilya to short-term contracts. For four months in Switzerland, they share a team, a line, a house, and a bed.
Then the lockout ends in January, and it’s time to go back. Back to different countries, cities, lives. Beds.
Reentry is harder than expected.
