    Summary

At ten years old, Miles had woken up alone in a hospital bed on December 28th and been told that his father was dead. The memory had stuck with him like bloodstains on a white dress shirt, but it hadn't exactly been a surprise. Some part of him had known the moment he had woken up alone that his father was gone.

The same bone-deep inexplicable knowing could not be said of Phoenix's confession. There was no part of Miles Edgeworth that had even remotely expected to hear those words, on that day or any other. He had long ago resigned himself to the idea that his feelings would never be reciprocated. The realization that apparently he had been completely wrong this whole time refused to sink in.

    -

In a moment of bravery and emptiheadedness, Phoenix confesses his feelings to Miles. How can Miles get what he wants when he's not even entirely sure what that is?

    Summary

“Oh, Normal, hey kiddo, uh… Could you go wake up your dad for me? I need his help with something, it’s pretty urgent.”

Normal nodded, and closed the door for a moment to remove the chain. He was about to tell Henry to come in, that he would go grab Sparrow and then be right back, but all the breath was punched out of his chest when he noticed the second person standing with Henry. At first, his brain couldn't quite make sense of it, refused to comprehend the thing he was seeing.

And that was it, wasn’t it, because what stood next to Henry on the porch was a thing, not a person. It was a corpse, skin pallid and beginning to rot, milky eyes sunken deep into their sockets, mouth hanging open limply, displaying a gray, dry-looking tongue. It had a blanket wrapped around its thin bony shoulders, but Normal could still see scraps of fabric clinging to its shrunken limbs… a short sleeve button up that might once have been white, khaki pants, a green sweater vest with a huge bloodstain in the center.

[MAJOR S2 SPOILERS] Hermie takes a deal, and comes back a little bit wrong. Luckily for him, Normal's never been too scared of zombies, especially not when those zombies also happen to be cute boys.

    Summary

If he had been paying any semblance of attention, then the Swallows-Oak-Garcia’s backyard would have looked pretty much exactly like Hermie remembered it. But he was only looking at the boy standing alone on the edge of the porch, tear stains on his face, and clutching a small piece of fabric like it was a lifeline. Upon closer examination, Hermie saw that it was a jaggedly-cut piece of a vibrantly green sweater. Hermie’s sweater. The last one he’d ever worn.

It was enough, he told himself. It was enough to see Normal, to know he was safe and okay, to lay eyes on his best friend even if Normal didn't see him in return. Hermie would go back to hell, and try not to want to die, and spend the rest of his life picturing his friend's face in the dark. It was enough. It had to be enough.

    It was not enough.

Hermie went to Hell after the events of ep. 47 and became a full-blown demon. Weeks later, the world has been saved, Normal still doesn't know Hermie's (kind of) alive, and Nicky is tired of lying on his behalf. Shenanigans and feelings ensure.

    Summary

“Perhaps you could… no, never mind.” Hermie looked back down at the table, and yoinked a fry from off of Taylor's plate, which prompted another “GUH?” from his nephew.

“Wait, do you have an idea, Hermie?” Normal asked, interest piqued despite his friend’s nonchalance.

“Oh, it's hardly an idea, really, you wouldn't be interested,” Hermie said, a slight smirk on his face, carefully not making eye contact. If Normal didn't know any better, he'd think he was being messed with, but he supposed Hermie was just odd like that sometimes.

“You should tell me just in case! I'm open to pretty much anything at this point.”

Hermie's eyes flashed up to meet Normal's, and the smirk on his face expanded into a full-blown grin.

    “There's always… well, I mean, there's always theater."

After being reprimanded by Tony Pepperoni for his lack of elective credits, Normal is convinced by Hermie to join Teen High's production of Big Fish. Surely it will go perfectly fine and there will be no jealousy or melodrama or romantic feelings whatsoever.

EDIT oct 2025: the hyperfixation has faded, but it never leaves entirely. i'll finish this one day, but it may be a couple years. thanks for your patience!
