    There’s a heavy pause in the air. “She?” Shoto asks, as if he wasn’t the one that brought her up.

    “The President?” Dabi clarifies, not bothering to mask the condescension in his voice. He’s never been one to do that.

    Shoto’s eyebrows furrow for a second before he seems to realize the confusion. “Oh, no. The former president of the HPSC died during the war.”

    Dabi returns his eyes to the therapy ball, focusing on his current attempt to close each finger around it, independent of the other. To get it right this time. “Then who is my loyal benefactor that fell off the face of the Earth?”

    “I don’t know if you’d recognize him.” Dabi grunts for him to continue, glad to be finally getting some answers. “A former pro hero. Hawks.”

    The ball falls to the floor once more.

    It takes a while for them to reach a new sense of normalcy. Touya’s short an arm and a leg. Keigo, still, lacks much identity outside of work, even with his quirk gone. There’s people working on it - doctors, scientists, and at least one team of genuine crackpots - but everything’s experimental. Theoretical. Clinical trials hidden under the guise of steroid treatments or physical therapy or whatever other excuse Keigo gives him for why he’s home so late that night, but Touya isn’t stupid. He’s, also, a lot less full of rage than he used to be, so he’s gotten better at ignoring it, this innate desire Keigo has to kill himself just to be worth something. Everyone heals at their own pace. Touya’s pace just happens to be faster.
