Summary
"You should be more considerate of my brother," he says, unhurried, like they're having a perfectly normal conversation and not like he has her pinned to the cushions with his hand at her throat. "He's tired. Shouldn't his own girlfriend know that?" He tilts his head slightly, looking down at her wet eyes, her tear-streaked face. "All that noise, and for what? For him to come out here and see you like this?"
Consciousness is its own cage.

Summary
He thinks about what she'd do if her eyes came open right now and found him here, crouched over her in the dark. A scream first, maybe—she seems like the screaming type. Or the recalibration: the pause, the processing, and then Ibuki-san in that specific register she uses for his brother, the honorific she hands to Ibuki so easily and had never once considered offering Natsuki. She'd tell Ibuki, and Ibuki would look at him with that quiet expression—and then what? Three months against a lifetime. The arithmetic has never been complicated. She can scream all she wants.
A pretty little problem.

Summary
She can feel the warmth of his breath through the fabric. She stares at the wall and tries to remember what she came here for.
You smell like him, he says, when he straightens. Strange, wearing a dead man’s things.
Her eyes fill. She can’t find where the grief ends and the sensation begins; they arrive together, inseparable, and she is lost.
Can dead men forgive?

Summary
Shiba comes down the hall at two in the morning; stops, because the light inside catches the sheets, and because what's happening inside the light is a thing he sees before he makes any decision about seeing it.
A slight sight to behold.

Summary
He's been teaching this kid sorcery for two years and has watched him grow into something careful and too-bright and unbearably attached, and he thinks: this is a terrible idea, and he says: "Pick a safeword."
Something crosses Hakuri's face. Gone before Shiba can name it.
"Red," he says. "Like traffic lights."
Like Chihiro’s eyes.
One reaps what they sow.

Summary
It was not a loud lesson. No one had ever sat him down and explained the hierarchy in so many words. The understanding had arrived instead in small, repeated gestures: the way the elders’ eyes moved past him and settled on Hiroto without hesitation; the way conversations about the future of the clan always assumed a single name; the way even the servants straightened a fraction more when Hiroto entered a room. He had learned to read those currents the way other men learn to read scripts.
Giyu Soga, and his lessons learned through life.

Summary
Shiba stroked the side of Hakuri’s face, touch light despite having opened her up so thoroughly just moments before. “Here goes,” she said sweetly, and pressed the tip of her cock against Hakuri’s entrance.
Hakuri gasped as it breached her; the head slid in fine enough, but she could feel the stretch of it, insistent and stimulating. Just as she was letting out a sigh under her breath, adjusting to the width of it versus how Shiba’s three fingers had felt, Shiba pressed in ever-so-slightly. Her sigh turned into a choked-off exclamation as the shaft forced her open. Hakuri looked down to see the first couple of centimeters pressing her open, the slide of it into her slick and obscene and already so much. “Shiba-san,” she said pathetically. “It’s so…”
“Big?” Shiba finished.
Shiba convinces Hakuri to take her oversized strap.

Summary
“Stop talking about Chiaki!” Akemura shouted. The breath it took to yell left him starved for air. Every gasp felt like it sent ash straight into his lungs, searing particles leaving damage everywhere they landed. His struggles weakened, legs not finding any traction in the scarred earth, arms still pinned above his head.
Ariu placed his hand, the bloodied one, on Akemura’s cheek. He patted it lightly in a mockery of a comforting gesture. “Sumika.”
Akemura comes to regret running headlong into a fight with the Mikaboshi prince. It isn't much of a fight.
