“Patrick—” Tashi just blinks, then scrambles for the TV remote. She powers it on and flips through a couple channels.
Patrick sits up straight, watching her hold the remote with a white-knuckle grip, when she finally settles on a channel.
He glances up at the TV, and it takes longer than he cares to admit for the words on the screen to click in his mind.

Way too soon, the attention is back on Art.
“C’mon Art, don’t be a pussy this time,” Patrick taunts.
“Ugh, fine. Dare,” he relents, with a tone and a pointed look down at Patrick that says are you happy now?

“You’re making fun of me.”
“No I’m not,” he says, lips flattening into a thin line. “I’m serious, man.”
“Patrick,” Art says, incredulous, “you’re offering to have sex… with—with me ?”
Patrick nods, in a way that says well, yeah, as if Art is the slow one for not understanding what’s happening here. As if it’s totally normal for his male best friend to offer to take his virginity.
or: art is having trouble losing his virginity, so patrick offers to help him out. platonically, of course.

“I don’t miss playing with you, man. I’m too old for it.”
Art starts towards the door, but Patrick lurches to his feet before he can make his escape. One hand stays on his towel, keeps it dangling in front of his hips. The other grasps Art’s wrist tightly—to ensure that his slick skin doesn’t slip out of his hold—and yanks, pulling him back into the sauna while the heavy door slams shut again.
“No, you don’t get to leave, just like that. You don’t get to run away,” Patrick snaps.
or: the sauna scene, continued.

Summary
Growing up, Patrick never really understood why people always claimed to hate hospitals so much.
To be fair, he’s never actually had to spend time in one, so he hasn’t given it much thought, he supposes. It just seems like a common theme, a hatred shared amongst characters on TV and in movies, one that the masses can easily relate to. It never occurred to him to consider why.
Now, sitting on a hard wooden chair in a hospital waiting room, he thinks he understands.

Summary
Now that he’s here, Art’s glad he decided to make the trip. He even convinced his parents to delay their own summer plans to let him stay on his own for a week.
Well, not quite on his own. He also, somehow, convinced Patrick to join him.
His stomach flutters a little at the thought–a mix of boyish excitement and crippling anxiety. It’s all very confusing.
He and Patrick have been talking a lot, remaining in near-constant contact these days. Honestly, they call and text way more frequently than they did after they left the academy and went their separate ways, both clinging to the naive hope that nothing would change between them.
It’s been good that they’ve gotten back together. In a way.
He just hates the circumstances that brought them back to each other.
Or: art and patrick spend a week at art’s parents’ lakehouse and maybe help each other heal.

Summary
“Art.” Patrick’s voice is soft through the phone, airy like he’s whispering. Art hears a quick inhale of breath, an exhale just as fast.
“Do you want to explain to me why you’re calling me at one in the fucking morning?” Art bites out, surprised by the venom in his own voice.
Hearing Patrick’s voice apparently triggered a resentment he hadn’t even realized was lying dormant all this time.
“Art, Art. I–I don’t,” a deep, shaky breath, “I don’t know what to do.”
or: something happens to patrick at a party, and art comes to help.
