    One of the defensemen had appeared from the right, practically out of nowhere, and slammed into Hollander. The unstoppable trajectory of two hundred and fifty pounds of hockey player crushed the brown-haired man into the boards, and he went head over heels into the box.
    Ilya’s vision tunneled, all he saw was Hollander’s limp body draped over the boards, skates in the air, head nowhere to be seen.

    Ilya stepped through the door the moment it cracked; it was much darker than the hallway, and it took his eyes a minute to adjust. Standing with his back against the door, he blinked as the shadowy form of Hollander was slowly revealed. His hair was a little messy, and his brow was slightly furrowed. He was really quite beauti– wait.
    Ilya froze where he stood and felt a smile slowly form on his face. Hollander, stupid beautiful Hollander, was wearing a suit. Tie and all. He even had his jacket buttoned.

    He hadn’t told Rozanov, why would he? They’d exchanged their usual quips in the days leading up to the game, riffing about who would win, how many goals they’d score. But underlying it all was the knowledge that they’d end the night in each other’s arms. Shane refused to admit it, but that might have been part of the reason he was so determined not to get sick. If it was any other game, any other team… It had been four months since he’d seen Rozanov. Four months of convincing himself he would finally end it, while simultaneously counting down the days until they would see each other again-- until this game. A game Shane would not be attending.

    Ilya’s hand wraps around his bare wrist and squeezes. Shane barely stops himself from collapsing to his knees.

    The pressure lights up every receptor of his touch-starved nervous system, wrenching a small, pained noise from the back of his throat. Every muted sensation comes flooding back so intensely that it almost hurts. He needs Ilya to hold him down until there’s nothing inside him but quiet. He wants to sink into him and disappear.

    It takes Shane an entire beat to remember where they are. Fighting against the fog in his mind, he manages to drag his gaze up to meet Ilya’s.

    There’s a slow-dawning horror and understanding on Ilya’s face.

    Or: Shane is in subdrop after their encounter in Vegas. Ilya fixes it.
