For some reason, that made Dan’s eyes clench shut, and then she threw her head back to look up at the ceiling. “Given my —”
“And I had to meet you,” Phil added quickly.

It's 1138, and Civil War is stirring in England. In the North, rumors of a Scottish invasion have begun to spread. Dan is a knight whose disguise as a man has recently fallen to pieces. Phil is the odd daughter of a country lord. They fall in love. This is a story about some of those things.

“So, unless that teacup is your prop? Would you mind putting it back?”
Dan looked down at his hands, which were still holding the teacup. The teacup that wasn’t his prop. The teacup that wasn’t his prop so he wasn’t meant to be touching it.
“Right!” Dan turned back around and put the porcelain cup back in its little tape square, labeled ‘ACT 3 SCENE 2 TEACUP’ in scrawled sharpie letters. “I’m sorry for…being an idiot, I guess.”
That made the techie let out a chuckle.
“Don’t worry about it. The first rule of tech is to assume all actors are idiots, so you didn’t change my impression of you at all.”

“Phil?” Dan said, after a moment. His voice was slow and gentle like it was when Phil did something stupid and potentially life-threatening.
“What?”
“Is this…like a sugar daddy thing?”

“Why are you blushing so much, then?”
“Because you just accused me of having a sugar daddy thing!”
It wasn’t a sugar daddy thing. At least, Phil didn’t think it was a sugar daddy thing. It was a normal thing to want to buy your boyfriend something nice to wear. That was normal and good, actually. The fact that Phil wanted to buy Dan a bunch of nice things was just like, an extension of that. If anything.

It was fine. For the first time in ages, Mike’s life seemed to be on an upward trajectory instead of plummeting downwards. College had, in some way, fixed things. Fixed Mike. He didn’t even feel the need to dissect what exactly had made his early teenage years so horrifying.
But like a curse, it’s all come back.

He’s toying with the possibility that he actually tripped over and died when he got up to answer the door and this is some pre-death hallucination, because there’s no way that he’s really in a situation where Mike Wheeler is sitting on his bed and asking Will to kiss him.

“You- I- What did you say?” Will stammers. Mike squeezes his eyes shut for a long moment, breathes, and then opens them again and meets Will’s gaze determinedly.
“I could help you,” Mike says, with somehow only the slightest tremble of uncertainty in his voice. "As in, we could have sex."or; Will is struggling. Guys who are nice, hot, AND good in bed are apparently non-existent at their university. Frustrated, he complains to Mike - who makes him an offer he can't refuse.
Unfortunately, there's always an aftermath to hooking up with your best friend.

Summary
Dan has one friend, and only because he was forced into it. Phil is loud, excitable, and irritatingly happy all of the time. Phil seems to find Dan's perpetual attitude funny, and despite Dan's best efforts to shun him and everyone else, wants to be around him all the time. That is, until Phil starts talking about Amanda Jones.
St Anthony's Secondary is a school divided by class. Their town is split down the middle, quite literally, by a railroad that separates the affluent families from the destitute. Dan is on the very outskirts of the poor side. He has one friend, and no desire to make any more, nor to buy into the sickening popularity and wealth contest of his peers. He thought Phil felt the same. And then, out of the blue, Phil develops a worrying obsession with a girl from the other side. She embodies everything Dan hates; he tries to explain this to Phil, to no avail. As his obsession with Amanda grows, as does Dan's loathing for her. Still, it shouldn't bug Dan this much to see his friend pine some braindead bimbo relying on her boyfriend's wallet. So why does it?
