Summary
The angel beneath him writhes, back arching against the floor of the basilica as his chest hitches with a sharp intake of air, lungs warmed with the thick weight of humidity and the breath Antonio hums against his lips, chasing the way his name falls from the mouth of the divine, a creature of holiness, born from Heaven and sent to Earth to protect, to bless.
It’s only right, Antonio thinks, that this miracle be worshipped properly.

Summary
Initially fought between Sicilian rebels and Charles of Anjou in Sicily and Southern Italy, the War of the Sicilian Vespers expanded when Aragon intervened in Sicily to support the rebels and claim the throne. The war ended in 1302 in the Peace of Caltabellotta, by which Sicily became an independent kingdom ruled by the House of Barcelona.
Thus began the 500 year reign of Spain’s dominion over Southern Italy.

Summary
Instead, he says, in a voice hollow even to his own ears, “You’re not real.”
The shadow snorts and shifts, like it is moving weight from foot to foot, and Spain stares resolutely forward, watching desperately from the very corners of his periphery. “I’m talking to you, aren’t I?” it asks, as if that means it’s real, as if that must mean Spain hasn’t lost himself completely to grief and anger and something irreparably, irrevocably broken within him.
In the aftermath of the unification of Italy, Spain finds himself being haunted. He also finds that he doesn’t mind.

Summary
He lets Romano grab at him, lets work-hardened fingers grip his shoulders as he takes Romano apart, as Spain makes love to him the way he would every morning if they were able, peaceful and languorous and heady like wine beneath the sun of Spanish summers, like Nero d'Avola sipped off the coast of sparkling Sicilian beaches.
Spain wakes Romano in the best way he knows how.

Summary
Lovino almost blames himself for this—he should have known his microscopic iota of luck had run out a long time ago, if it ever existed at all, and at this point the universe exists to mock him personally, so, really, he should have known this was coming.
But still, Matthew doesn’t need to look so smug.
(or, alternatively, the one where Lovino is a TA and Antonio is determined to ruin his life)

Bookmarker's Notes
His mind falters for a second when he sees Lovino, the way it always does when he sees Lovino. He isn’t even dressed all that differently than how he did in class, nice slacks and pressed shirt, hair immaculate as it always is. He’s handsome, devastatingly so, but Antonio knew that, has known that for over a year already. What catches Antonio is the fact that it’s Lovino coming out for their date, the date they are about to go on, on which Lovino called to ask him. On a date.
Together.
