When Jamato caught Mapicc in the arena, he did not know that the latter had hidden an ender pearl in his inventory. So when Jamato summoned the nether portal with Mapicc in it, Mapicc took the chance and threw the pearl far, far away, escaping the prison on his own. He did not see Spoke wearing full set armor.
He was fine back in the overworld, at least for a while. And then Null caught up with him.
