Summary
“So,” Ilya says, dragging the word out. He’s swiping at non-existent crumbs on the counter, avoiding his eyes. “You have dinner at parents on Christmas, yes?”
“Yeah.”
Ilya nods. “I can house-sit while you are away. Make place pretty, if you have decorations. Make it less boring.”
Shane’s eyebrows fly up. “What? You don’t want to come with?”
Finally, Ilya looks up at him. Hesitantly, he asks, “You want me to come with?”
Frowning, Shane says, “I– yeah. Yeah, of course. You think I invited you here just so you could spend Christmas alone?”
Looking away, Ilya shrugs. “I am intruder here, Hollander. You have family. I do not. Makes situation… difficult, maybe. You forget the world thinks we are rivals.”
“Not difficult,” Shane says immediately. “You want to come, you’re coming.”
Or: Ilya's in Montreal alone during the week leading up to the Winter Classic. Shane doesn't let him spend Christmas alone.

Sirius smacks James so hard that his glasses fall off. “You tosser,” Sirius says, “what’d you go and do that for?”
“That’s exactly what I said when we found out,” Lily says, thoughtfully, and Remus laughs at the look on James’ face.
“First of all, it’s only half my fault,” James says as he fumbles for his glasses, “so I don’t understand why I’m the only one getting smacked around here.”
“Are you suggesting that we smack your girlfriend around?” Remus asks.
“Go ahead and try,” Lily says.
Sirius eyes her warily. “You have cat reflexes. No thank you.”***
“I love you,” he says instead. His voice doesn’t break. The room is empty, and the first November of the rest of his life has just begun, and he is in love with Sirius Black.
“So,” Remus says, and he nearly laughs. “There you have it.”

“You like it though?” Blaise asks, eyes big. “My earring?”
“You fishing for compliments?”
That brings a grin to Blaise’s mouth. “Always.”
He stares at him for a moment longer. Too long really. But Blaise seems to have a face that demands that. Calling him pretty would be doing him a disservice. Eventually George coughs, clearing his throat and looking away.
“Yeah,” he manages gruffly. “I like it.”***
“Sometimes,” he says finally, voice a little rough. “I feel like I’m standing in the way of everyone in my life being happy. I know who they need me to be but I just…I can’t. I can’t be that person. And it’s like I’m holding them all hostage with my grief.”
***
"And I just got scared.”
There’s a moment before Ron tentatively asks: “Of what?”
Harry shakes his head, finally looking back at them. “That I’d lost it. That after all of that I went and bottled it.”
“Bottled what?” Ron pushes.
Harry gives him a watery smile, “my happy ending.”***
“Did I say the wrong thing?” he asks, searching Blaise’s face.
Blaise shakes his head. “No,” and then he takes George’s hand and brings it to his mouth, kissing it softly. George just watches. He’s not sure anyone’s ever touched him like that before. Ever treated him delicately. “I think there’s a good chance you’re really gonna fuck me up,” Blaise murmurs looking down at George’s hand.***
“I love you,” the shock on Harry’s face is almost painful. “You have to know—you must know—that it has always been you. It will only ever be you. You—you are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I wish I could make you understand how you—how it feels to look at you. To know you. To touch you. I wish I knew how to explain what it’s like. The most incredible kind of magic,” both their eyes are a little damp. “And that’s why I need you to find yourself a nice girl. Or boy. Or whomever. I need you to get married and have your kids and leave me here. I need you to leave me here okay? Because I love you, I love you so much. And I cannot be the reason your life falls apart.”
***
Angelina takes her time, she’s had years with this pain by now, she’s learned how to face it without choking. Learned how to take it out at night and kiss its forehead and not let it swallow her whole. There are still moments of course, when it gets too big.
“Who’s there?”
“Orange.”
“Orange who?”
“Orange you glad to see me?”She wishes she could go back. Wishes she could love him more. Like maybe if she’d used it all up she wouldn’t be left standing here now, still with so much to carry. So much love with nowhere to go.
***
"Wherever he is, he is loving you."
***
“Mum?” an exhale.
a plea.
this is the youngest he’s felt in ages.

“You dance as well as someone would expect someone who recites Shakespeare at parties to dance.”
“Thank you.”
“Bless you for being drunk enough to take that as a compliment.”***
"I'll be your second if he tries to fight you," Remus offered kindly.
James smiled adoringly at Remus. "Bless your precious heart, Moony, but that old geezer would snap you like a twig. No, Sirius, you have to be my second."
"I'm on the old guy's side."
James scowled again. "May a curse befall your house."
Sirius shook his head. "Mate, do you know how many people have tried to put curses on the Black family? The Blacks sold their souls to the devil in the stone ages." -

Summary
Sirius’s thoughts are a slow-moving, impending disaster. How he wants to pin Remus up against the cupboards, to crowd him into a corner; how he wants to intertwine their fingers, to brush his lips against Remus’s forehead, his jaw. Instead, he settles for ducking his head and sliding a finger through the belt loop of Remus's jeans—a ridiculous gesture so utterly intimate, even for the pair of them, that he only allows it because he’s just drunk enough.
“Stop stealing my bloody clothes, Lupin.” He says, very quietly.
Remus looks up at him, eyes dark, and murmurs pleasantly: “Better learn to do your own laundry then, Black. Consider it my fee.”
***
It was an impossible thing, living with Remus Lupin--but Sirius was doing it anyway.

“You don’t get sick from temperature. You get sick from bacteria and viruses.” Remus retorts with an eye roll so grand, Sirius is shocked his eyes don’t get stuck in the back of his head. “If there’s one thing I want to accomplish before I die, it’s to kill that line of logic.”
“Six minutes.” Peter reminds them as he zips up his coat. “Sirius, when Remus dies later this week, I will not be helping you clear out his books.”
“Please. They’ve invaded every corner of the flat, they’re practically sentient. At this rate, my only option will be to burn the whole building down.”
