    Summary

"I have just the man for you. One of our master stylists," Percy says. He brings Alex through the main salon area to a small back room with just three chairs and tells him to take a seat. There aren't any windows in here, but it's overflowing with plants and vines in all different shades of green, giving the feel of a secret garden.

Moments later, Alex is faced with a tall, young, blond man who is objectively beautiful, all symmetrical lines and a tight little waist that expands out to a broad chest and shoulders. A man who immediately puts his hands in Alex's hair, brushing strands aside, finger-combing, tugging this way and that. It's really nice, and Alex is feeling some type of way about being touched like this when no one has touched him in months. Years, a small voice in the back of his head pipes up, but he ignores it.

"What are you looking for today, Senator?" His voice is like silk. Alex blinks at the man in the mirror in front of them. He can see nipples peaked through his tight black t-shirt. Fucking hell.

Alex is a newly elected senator. Henry is a much younger hair stylist at Senate Hair Care Services. Everything is going to be...fine.

    Summary

“How about this,” Alex says, smug and overconfident, “for every awful date you have where they leave you high and dry, I’ll finish the job.”

Henry’s face, smushed into the bend of his arm, stays alarmingly still.

    “Excuse me.”

The beer bottle on Alex’s stomach begins to wobble, and Alex only narrowly catches it before it dumps over on his chest. He rolls over and leans on one of his arms.

“I mean. That’s what friends are for, right?”

Silence stretches over the living room, Henry’s face hovering above him from the couch. Alex stares at the rug until he can’t avoid Henry’s gaze anymore, then blinks up at him slowly.

    “Right,” Henry echoes eventually.

    Summary

In hindsight, Henry isn’t sure why he thought Alex wouldn’t want to correspond about this over email. The man has a sticker on his laptop—his personal one, not his work computer, blessedly—that says I’M A FREAK IN THE SHEETS! in egregious rainbow Comic Sans over a picture of an Excel spreadsheet. Henry was fully aware of what he was getting himself into.

    --

after agreeing to see where things go with his coworker, long time romantic infatuation, and already-in-a-relationship alex, henry gets himself a little in over his head. luckily, when he's busy giving that to alex, it's hardly the first thing on his mind.

    Summary

Still, Henry shakes his head and teases, “Whatever will you do without all those figure skaters and their short skirts around?”

“Fuck off, asshole!” Alex huffs with a laugh, shoving him hard in the shoulder, only to hook his arm around Henry’s neck and drag him closer. “Only thing I need for my Olympic experience is four gold medals. Besides, I got you to bug the shit out of. What more do I need?”

(Henry isn't expecting much out of his third Olympics—still climbing up the world ranks after an injury, he's not in the medal conversation, no matter how much his best friend and chief competitor, Alex Claremont-Diaz, might insist otherwise. After all, Alex is far and away the gold medal favourite, ranked first in the world and damn near uncatchable on a piste lately. Between that and the fact that they're hundreds of kilometres away from most of the other Olympic venues, he expects the games to be relatively quiet. Low key. Downright unremarkable.

    He couldn't be more wrong.)

    Summary

“Oxford, like twenty years ago—” Twenty-one, actually. “I was there for a term abroad. We had a class together.” Alex huffs a disbelieving laugh and pushes a hand back through his curls. “We, uh, well. There was that party after final exams…”

“I’m so sorry, I don’t recall that one” Henry lies, flashing an apologetic smile. “I don’t remember the details of most of those uni parties these days.”

(Twenty years ago, Henry met—and let go of—his soulmate. Now he's in his 40s, with a new job in a new city, and certainly not expecting said soulmate to come barreling into his life again. A small white lie seems like the simplest way to keep things from getting awkward, but real life has a way of getting complicated.)
