Summary
The Gold Coast was warmer and more humid than Los Angeles in a way May hadn’t really expected. It wasn’t harsher, just… sticky. It settled over her shoulders as she leaned against the edge of the resort pool, water lapping lazily around her waist. Palm trees swayed overhead, and cicadas buzzed beyond the fence.
She barely noticed any of it.
Her attention was entirely on Ravi who had just announced ‘watch this’ before promptly disappearing underwater. A second later his legs shot straight into the air almost perfectly vertical.

Summary
The shot echoed through the corridor.
Glass burst inward. He instinctively twisted away, but not in time.
Ravi heard it before he felt it.
A deafening crack. Then a burst of heat? Followed by blinding, white-hot pain that ripped through his left upper arm. He twisted further as his body stopped working properly all at once. His hand slipped from the door and he hit the floor hard as a strangled noise tore out of him.
Oh, shit.

“Ravi?” Chimney says as they rush over.
Ravi’s sitting back on his heels now, blinking sluggishly, as he half unzips his jacket like he’s trying to take it off. His movements are jerky, his hands fumbling with the zipper and Chimney’s gut twists. All the voices are blurring together. He thinks someone is saying his name, but it sounds like a dream. He couldn’t answer if he wanted to.
“Hey, don’t do that,” Eddie says quickly, kneeling beside him, hands gently moving Ravi’s own. “‘Leave it on, okay?”

Summary
By the time the ambulance pulled away with the patient, the crew was sliding tools back into their compartments. Ravi moved slower, dropping every second item. Every motion was like fighting through molasses. His breaths were running shallow now, his chest rising and falling too fast for someone who was apparently fine.
“Ravi,” Bobby called, tone laced with concern.
Ravi moved, opening his mouth to say the same phrase again, but the words failed. His knees buckled, the world moving in slow motion, and before anyone could catch him, he crumpled to the asphalt with a dull thud.
