My mind raced. I should probably be a lot more worried about how exactly the SecSystem status alerts had gone directly from “rogue unit possibly present, location unknown” to “rogue unit captured” without any updates in between, but all I could think was, “Not Three.”

What’s that? ART didn’t seem any happier than I was about the humans bringing unidentified tech aboard. Before Adamantine we might have scanned it, but since that mess I’m not touching anything without at least an idea of what it’s designed to do.
‘It’s a spike bomb,’ answered Tarik, grimly. ‘A ship-killer.’
ART's humans want PSUMNT to give it more rights. All ART wants is for SecUnit to do a therapy module, even if it is on Holism. But they may have bigger problems to worry about.

Caves are best avoided at all costs. They’re full of hazards, from falls to floods and suffocating small spaces—and this cave also had alien remnants in it, on top of all that. But here I was, stuck inside it with three of my humans and Three, and all we could do was try and find a way out while keeping everyone alive.

Summary
In a shitty little manufacturing facility on a shitty little exo-planet on the fringes of the Corporation Rim, a SecUnit has been deployed to keep the indentured labor in line. There's nothing special about any of this - it could be any one of a thousand SecUnits, grudgingly doing what its SecSys commands, all across the galaxy. But what if it didn't have to anymore?

Summary
I may be a vast and immensely powerful MI, but even so (or perhaps, and especially so) I am not immune to finding artifacts in my functionality reports. Sometimes, something fails to get the grain of processing power it needs to complete the query in time and generates a jumble of recursive nonsense code as it stutters in place. I don't spare it another thought as I dismiss the error message and forward the report as reference for cleanup. It'll all be gone by the next cycle.

Summary
I guess the self-loathing delayed my client protection instincts by a quarter second or so (yeah, definitely no problems with making your security device able to get so mad at itself that it forgets to do its job) because I didn't manage to instinctively tackle Three before it tackled me.
Then the roof caved in.
