It’d been touch and go, Andy told him when Robert finally picked up the phone, but he’d made it. There hadn't been much else to say given the resentment still clinging to them at the time, but Robert had taken annual leave and headed back to Emmerdale, sat around the kitchen table as Vic cried on his shoulder and Diane fussed and Annie called from a bad connection in Spain, and braved himself to see his dad for the first time in three years.
In typical Jack Sugden fashion, he’d barely reacted to Robert’s presence, taking it as a given, and Robert had bitten his tongue and tried not to scream.
[Or: Robert's home for the weekend, which would be fine if they were a normal, healthy family.]

Summary
"I used to...well, me and your brother were big pals once," he says, deciding to spare Steve the whole convoluted saga. They're probably a bit young to appreciate how he and Aaron single-handedly invented the concept of love back in 2014.
Steve nods like they're a very busy kid, and they're grateful he's kept it brief. Robert thinks the number of Dingles he doesn't actively want to throttle may have just risen to two.
Robert and Aaron find their way back to each other with a little help from Steve and Hazza.
