“Oh, Erling,” Jobe sighs dramatically, his tone teasing again, as if reading Jude’s mind. “My big, strong Erling. Oh please won’t you bid for my hand and make me forever yours.”
“Shut up,” Jude laughs, his face crimson now. “You are so cringe. You know it’s not like that. We’re just friends.”
Jobe rolls his eyes playfully.
“We are!” Jude insists. “Come on. Think of what I’m dealing with here. When you turn twenty-one, wouldn’t you rather marry someone you actually like?”
“I know,” Jobe says softly, kissing his brother’s cheek. “I get it. I’m just teasing you. I don’t envy you. I know you wouldn’t be doing this if you didn’t have to. And I want you to find some sort of happiness from your marriage. So if you have to marry someone, it might as well be him.”

As he approaches his twenty-first birthday, Prince Jude of the Kingdom of Bellingham will be offered to the royal families of the neighbouring kingdoms, so that their eligible alphas may bid for his hand in marriage if they wish. Jude's life comes crashing down around him when a few steamy nights with Erling result in an unplanned pregnancy that could uproot his entire career. When Erling offers to look after the child, it's a no-brainer; a done deal where Jude never has to think about them again. “No, who do you think you’re talking to?” Haaland growled. The sound reverberated in the air, making a shiver run down Jude’s spine, but not out of fear. Later, all alone in his bedroom, he would have enough time to think about his reaction. For now, all he could do was watch the scene in front of him with unblinking eyes, entranced. “This isn’t an ordinary person, and you’re not at a pub chatting with your mates and spitting prejudiced bullshit. This is your Crown Prince, His Highness, and you will not offend him in my presence. Do you understand?”
