Tom Riddle had a plan. Open the Chamber of Secrets, kill a few students, terrify the school, and rise up in all his glory. Then his idiotic follower gave his diary to Hermione Granger, Muggle-born, appealing Basilisk snack. Apparently his future self couldn't find good help either.
Now Tom is stuck in a notebook, unable to kill anyone, and helping his new best friend with her homework. She's clever, infuriatingly earnest, and keeps being... nice? But friendship was not in the plan.

Summary
Affinity. One tiny, almost unheard of word that surfaces in the back of his mind from a book read so long ago that he can no longer recall the title, only the yellowed fabric cover. Something so unheard of he is surprised he remembers it at all, a bedtime story, a fairytale for the Wizarding world. Something so impossible that it cannot possibly be real, and yet the certainty of it has settled deeply in his bones.
He wonders if she knows. Wonders if she understands the magnitude of what has passed between them (what will pass between them, the voice in the back of his mind hisses). She has grown up in the Muggle world, she likely does not know or understand the intimacy of something that is barely more than a myth, even to most witches and wizards. He throws the fire whiskey back, and pours another drink, fully intending to drink beyond memory. To erase that look in Granger's eyes from his mind.

Tom Riddle was back. Oh how he loathes this place. Wool's Orphanage. Just one last time. This would be a new beginning. This would be the moment that would usher in the start of his Legacy. All he had to do was walk back in there, take care of business and then he could leave on his Global Journey. When he returned to these shores a decade later he would begin to make his moves and change their world.
This was the next phase in his plan, but sometimes Fate throws something at your plans. Good thing the rising Dark Lord has a talent for tweaking things to his liking. He's about to embark on the next chapter of his life. Make no mistake, he was still going to become a Lord of his own making, but it's not going to happen exactly how he had intended.
And that will change everything.Because what can happen when a man, setting out to create his own Legacy, meets someone unexpected and chooses to do the unexpected? A family is made and it changes the path to greatness. The plan was to build his Legacy and he will achieve it. It may look a bit different, but it will be better than he ever imagined.
