Arthur Morgan died on a mountain, alone. He knew this. He remembers this, felt the breeze running through his hair like he distantly remembers his mother doing, the sun warming his face. His tired body seemed to relax slowly, slowly, till there was nothing left but the ghost of a smile and blue eyes turned to the sky.
So why is it so damn cold?

Summary
The mountains were harsh, and the cold harsher. Put them together and you don't gotta wait for hell to freeze over, it already came right to you. Only difference was people ain't forced to live through the whole thing. Arthur hoped whatever afterlife existed would give Davey some slack, dying in a place like this.
OR; Isaac Morgan lives, and the ripple effects thereof.

“Don’t touch me.”
When it comes out is nothing more than a whisper, his stance is still tense, one foot already closer to the door, ready to go after his sister and leave this heavy stillness behind.
Nikolaos’s hand is still hanging mid air, where his arm was a few second ago. Alexios meets his gaze for just a second, too brief to read anything but sadness in his eyes. He looks somehow mollified and actually his age for once, stripped of his feared general persona for once and just standing silent in the empty spaces of a house he once called his.
Alexios has no time for his remorse now, he needs to find his sister and make sure she’s okay. He turns his back on Nikolaos and he’s met with his mother’s heartbroken expression, tears in her eyes and something like disbelief marking the edge of her tight frown.

Summary
Barnabas called a friendly word to them, abandoning his argument with Brasidas with a huff and going below with them, friendly arm slung around Kassandra's shoulders and Deimos close in his shadow, head ducked low but smiling. Sweet even though he boasted about how easy it would be to kill all of them if he'd been trying; he didn't mean it, loved Kassandra in whatever way Chrysis' abuse had left him with too much to do it. Maybe he'd come to care for the rest of them, too, in his way; gentle as he could make himself when he cuffed Barnabas' arm, punched Stentor passing them by.
Herodotus had never thought of having children, but Kassandra has become dear to him so why not have a son, too?

Herodotus’ head snapped to her, a grin bright on his face. “Kassandra!” He said, darted forward when she drew close and dragged her into leaning over the rail with him; swept his hand out towards the sea cave huge on the cliff-face, yawning deep into the heart of the island. “Look!” He said. “Kassandra look! A ruin! An Isu ruin!”
Herodotus notices an Isu ruin, and because Kassandra loves him she takes him inside. There is more than just sand at its heart.

“Would you like me to leave a few moments?” She asked, gentle as Herodotus took a shaky breath and shivered under the gentle breeze blowing in from Poseidon’s sea. “I won’t go far.”
He shook his head. “No,” Herodotus murmured. “Dearest Kassandra, no. Please stay with me, I don’t think-” He swallowed again. “I cannot do this alone. And I would rather my daughter here to help me say goodbye than one of my brothers.”
“Then it’s only us and these beasts for miles around,” Kassandra said, and stroked Phobos’ nose. “And none of us will judge you.”
Herodotus isn't sure how to say goodbye to his parents. Kassandra, as always, is there for him.

Barnabas, beside her, sighed when she tossed her bread to the water for the fish to eat. “I never had a family of my own,” He said. Kassandra looked to him, not sure what she thought she was going to find in his kind, old face, but it wasn’t the sadness, older than Kassandra’s years, shining out when he looked across the water. “I loved the sea too much to want to leave it, and no sensible woman would want to raise a child on a ship that might fall to pirates. By the time I was ready to settle down? Well, what woman would want an old fart like me, eh?”
He laughed to himself, and Kassandra wondered how such a sad sound could have so much humour in it. “But,” He said, “If I ever had one, I like to think I’d have a daughter like you.”
Kassandra has found her mother, but it's one thing to search for her and it's entirely another to go to meet her. Barnabas knows how to help.

He scuffed his feet against the ground, kicking away a bird that wandered close, looking for scraps; looked back at Kassandra, who was trying - and failing - to teach Herodotus a few simple guards with a sword. “She’s found it difficult, I think, to be your child again,” He told her, watching as Myrrine’s face went carefully, deliberately blank at the reminder of the true distance between her and Kassandra. “She is not the girl that left Sparta.”
Barnabas doesn't like Myrrine, and he's got more than a few words to say to her.

Pythagoras, in another world, could have been Nikolaos on that deck, kissing Myrrine in the shadow of the sunset. Kassandra could have grown up in Sparta with a different kind of mentor to train and guide her, to actually prepare her for her own nonsense destiny. Alexios might never have had to become the Deimos who kissed the scar he’d given Brasidas late at night when he thought no one would find out about their trysts. So much hurt avoided, in that other world, that other simulation.
Kassandra and her family, when all is said and done.

"Kassandra my friend, I thought we agreed no bears after the havoc it wreaked last time.” He scowled, then; looked sharply at Kassandra. “Where on Zeus’ green earth did you find a wolf the size of a bear, and why is it friends with you?”
Barnabas is, generally, very good about the animals Kassandra brings home. Her new wolf, however, is a bit concerning.
