    Summary

Himiko Toga was fourteen, and she killed her middle school crush. She turned fifteen on the run, made friends with a cute girl in a cheap part of town. She drank pigeon blood and never said a word. She turned sixteen, lost connections, killed a few more people who were too touchy, too cute, too cool. Himiko never said a word about that, either. She met others—talked, laughed—and they didn’t call her rotten for the blood, or the birds, or anything else.

(or: she’s just a girl, after all.)

    Summary

It had been five years, but the pain had not dulled at all. Sometimes, Ochaco wished Toga really did die that day. That way, all she would have to do is mourn. She wouldn’t have that stupid itch of hope. She would have grieved in peace years ago and been able to move on. Maybe she would be able to love somebody else. But she could never move on with the lingering questions of what happened to Toga.

What no one knew was there was a basement to her agency. A secret room with piles and piles of evidence to find Toga. There were corkboards with hundreds of stray pictures, newspaper clippings, and big red lines drawn to endless conclusions. But Ochaco never got an answer. There were stories of murders all over the country, of course. Only a few stray ones caught her eye, as possibilities. Just a sliver of a chance that it was Toga holding the knife. But nothing ever close by, and nothing big enough to make her motivated.

    --

Alternate ending where Toga doesn't die when transferring blood to Ochaco and just runs away. Ochaco spends years trying to find Toga, feeling incomplete without her while everyone else goes on to live happy lives. All until one day when Toga decides she wants to be found.

They'd sit on a bench near U.A, tucked snugly between green patches of mowed grass, off the edge of a concrete walkway. It became a routine.

It was unnerving at first, the aftermath of a war. Uraraka hadn't slept right since, hadn't been able to calm down unless she checked all the corners of her house. Peered into the shadows and made sure they weren't peering back. She often reflected on those fights she had during their final stand.

    Summary

More than a year later, she still didn’t know if seeing Himiko’s body one last time had been the right choice. On one hand, it should have helped the grieving process; seeing her, knowing she was gone. It meant there was no chance she was still somewhere out there. That final glimpse should have allowed her to move on without dwelling on what-ifs, at least that’s what she told herself.

Some nights, she still tried to convince herself the body wasn’t really Himiko’s, that it was fake, a clone created during the sad man’s death parade that somehow hadn’t turned to ashes. She still told herself that Himiko would be back one day.
