Ah. That’s funny. She can still feel. She can still ache. Casey had steeled herself the moment she set eyes on that broach and now she has the audacity to care.
“I’ll… never forget,” continues Monica. Her voice shakes. And it’s quiet, barely audible, but it feels so loud regardless. “I won’t.”
Maybe that’s why Casey laughs again. “What are we going to do with you?”
Casey Grove was once a little sister, too.

Oh. In that moment, all the words that should have been stored neatly inside tangle to become one strangled sentence. “I— I, you, um, well—” The first few syllables fly out, stuttered, and the next are as indecipherable as the rest. “It’s– it’s, um, you, there, um, ah… S- sorry…”
Her fingers clutch tighter against the bag. Her gaze returns to the floor. Felix, for all that he is, remains impossibly patient.
... Monica attempts to give a gift to Felix. It goes about as well as you expect.
