Summary
It’s been crippling her since she was nine and suddenly on her own: the responsibility, at first for herself and then for the others who came steadily to rely on her. Foster care never really panned out, but Jihyo was a big girl; she made it work. First in ways she shouldn’t have, but eventually she stops, and learns to invest in these small and fragile and war-formed relationships. Jihyo had thought, when she got a girlfriend, that the responsibility and leadership she’s needed to make her life work would be able to thaw—it doesn’t really work out that way.
Which is how she ends up here: in a back room of a club—a woman before her, slipping the door closed. The thought process: she needs an intimacy that will allow her to give up that control, at least just this once. Where else can intimacy be bought?
