Summary
Mike swallows and reorganizes his priorities and grabs the radio out of the backpack. His fingers are on the push-to-talk when a loud clattering noise makes him whip towards the door. Will’s head snaps up at the same time, so Mike’s nose is in his hair, and normally that would be the distraction of a lifetime.
Except the clattering came from out there. The hallway beyond the door. And the only other thing in this school right now is—
“The Demodog.”
“Shh. Don’t move.”
As if Mike would be dumb enough to move. Still, not moving leaves them in what some would call a compromising position. When it was brief, Mike could stand not to notice every little detail, but rooted to their spots, he’s hyper-aware: their feet aligned in a puddle of Clorox, hips brushing, Will’s shoulder pressed into Mike’s chest, the tickle of Will’s hair against Mike’s nose. Mike clutching Will, Will clutching Mike.

Summary
In some ways, Will always knew this conversation was coming. He knew if he came out, there’d be more than just one conversation about it. His mom would want to reassure him, and Jonathan would probably give him some awkward but well-intentioned advice. His friends would– well hopefully they’d tell him they’re still his friends. They might even tease him about it, if they took it really well.
And Mike…
“Can we talk?” He bounced on the balls of his feet, looking awkward and earnest and so normal it hurt Will’s teeth to think about. “Heart to heart?”
...
Mike and Will have a heart to heart, in which Mike asks some extremely gay questions, Will is heartbroken and oblivious, tears are shed, truths are spilled, and love is found at last.

“Will?” Mike swiveled around, sat on a spinning chair in the middle of the small room.
“Mike,” Will smiled, tiny. “I thought I’d find you here,” he had a black bag in his hands, like something he’d fill art supplies with.
“Yeah, it’s call time. I’m surprised I’m not late,” Mike toyed with the hem of his sleeve. “Are you.. uh, gonna watch the show?”
Will squinted and tilted his head, mildly amused. “Mike…”
“What?”
“I’m on the stage makeup crew. Didn’t Dustin tell you?”

Summary
“Hey, Will! C’mon buddy, time to wake up and get going, okay? We’re all done here, it’s all done.”
The warbled voices began to separate from one another, like oil from water. Groaning, he blinked his eyes like a frog, one and then the other, the harsh operatory light greeting him with a menacing glow. Slowly, the blobs of color before him began to sharpen into focus, taking the form of two random people he had seen briefly before, and his mom, studying him with intensity.
“Welcome back, sleepyhead,” Joyce whispered, giving his hand a gentle squeeze, “how’re you feeling?”
“Mom,” he tried to say, but the sound that came out was a strangled grunt. Huh. Usually he has no problem speaking, but something was in his way. Gauze. Bloody gauze, specifically, was in his way. He gingerly reached a hand up to touch his cheeks, brushing against the damp dressing that was dangling between his lips. Huh. That wasn’t there before.

Will’s voice trails off, and he runs a hand over his face. Mike waits a few moments to see if he’ll say anything else, but when Will doesn’t, he takes a shaky breath and tries to find his own courage.
“And you thought, what?” Mike whispers. “That - that it wouldn’t mean as much to me if it came from you?”
Will flinches. He’s still turned away from Mike, and there’s a desperation in his voice when he whispers back, “Mike, please…”

Summary
Today, though, is different, because today, Will is feeling incredibly grateful to have this job. All of a sudden he doesn't mind the sweeping and the dusting and the restocking shelves with books that, quite frankly, aren't to his own taste in any way whatsoever, aside from the tiny comic book section tucked away in the darkest part of the store. He's grateful for the silence and the boredom and the wasting his phone battery scrolling through the Instagram accounts of people he doesn't know or care about.
Because the thing is, if Will didn't have this job, he would have never had the opportunity to lay eyes on the very attractive guy that just walked in, and that, in and of itself, is enough to make him feel, vaguely, like his entire life is complete.

“What?”, Will huffs, shaking his head in disbelief. “You know blue does not only equate sadness, right? It is one of the blatantly obvious meanings, sure, but it can also imply tranquility, loyalty, trust, peace, and—"
Shut up, shut up, shut up, the voice in his head screams by now, but one cannot interrupt Will in the middle of one of his art rants. Impossible. No chance. “And with the vastness of the sky or sea, blue is also often associated with distance, longing, yearning, and— stuff.”
“Distance”, Mike echoes, and only then does Will truly understand what he has just admitted into the air freely, completely unprovoked and voluntarily. “Longing. Yearning.”
Obviously, this is the exact moment Robert Smith decides to sing about the fact that it is Friday, and that he is very much in love.
Five times Mike distracts Will from his art assignments with his stupidly flirtatious ways, and one time Will actually needs his help to complete a coursework.
