Summary
“Hey,” Langdon says, and even his voice sounds different, like he’s holding in a burp. The laugh dies in her throat, however, when she notices he's carrying... a bouquet?
"Sorry if they're ugly," he says, "I told the florist purple, and she ran with it."
Mel takes them out of his hands, but she doesn't stop blinking. "Um, thank you. But... why?"
He cringes. "Shit, it’s too much, isn’t it? It's been a while since I've been on a first date. I'm rusty."
Mel almost drops the flowers as she staggers backward. "What?"

Summary
“What do you think about the severe rash case? Think you want in on it or can I take it?”
Frank turns to face her, which makes her look at him. His eyebrow is raised, an expression of focus on his face. “I think I want you to take a break.”
Mel laughs, glances away before making eye contact again. “That’s a funny joke.”
“No, I'm serious. Mel, go take fifteen,” he says with a firm tone.
“But I don’t need a break.”
Frank places a gentle, yet strong, hand on her shoulder. Mel glances down at it, a bit too stunned to speak; her brain trips over itself. Frank rarely touches her like this. It should be overstimulating — and if it were anyone else, it very well might’ve been — but instead the weight of his hand on her shoulder grounds her. Becomes an anchor.

Summary
“I swear I’ve mentioned Alex before,” Mel murmurs, frowning down at her phone, still not clocking how she’s short-circuited Frank’s brain. It's a blue screen of death up there. Hi, you’ve reached Dr. Frank Langdon. I’m not available to talk right now, but leave a message, and I might get back to you. Beeeeeep.
The picture continues to shine cheerily up at them, silently mocking Frank. He forces himself to look away and swallows with difficulty. “I think I'd remember if you'd told me about your ‘best friend’ who you ‘used to be in love with.’”

Summary
Mel shoots another look at her seat stealer—even if he didn’t know that’s what he was doing, she’s still going to hold a grudge—and notices for the first time that he’s, like, absurdly attractive. His dark hair is sticking up in an intentional bedhead kind of way, his jaw is insanely sharp, and his eyes are a striking blue, light enough that she can make them out feet away.
Before she can get too carried away studying him, though, he does something that makes her blood boil: he crosses his arms on the table in front of him and puts his head down, apparently settling in for a nap.
A nap! In her seat! What a waste!
(or: 5 times Frank steals Mel’s seat + 1 time she steals his.)
