    Summary

Susato does not realize how much she has missed England until the moment she steps off of the steamship and onto its shores once again.

She has had so many experiences here, after all, has learned so much about her family and herself. The course of her life—what she had once thought her life would be—had been inexorably altered by the events of her last journey to this place.

Her life will be inexorably altered again, she feels sure, as she returns today with her dear friend.

She reaches out without thinking and catches Rei’s free hand. “Are you ready, Rei?”

“Of course, Susato,” Rei says, beaming at her. “Ready for anything.”

    ***
Susato returns to England six years later on a study tour of her own. She quickly finds herself searching for a seemingly supernatural culprit with Iris as her impromptu judicial assistant, Gina aiding the investigation, and Maria providing forensic evidence along with her forensic-investigator-in-training, Rei.

    Summary

The proprietor of the Flame’s Keep has long been known as one of the most isolating roles that a cleric of the Death God might fulfill. His sole purpose for the past five years has been to wander these empty halls and keep alight the holy Flame. His sole company has been the shadows; the people of the nearby village at once revere his power and fear his approach.

But now, there is the Apprentice.

    Summary

He’s done his best, up until now, to ensure that Barok never knows about his continued struggles. He doesn’t need his mentor treating him too softly for finding out about the open wound that is Kazuma’s psyche. He doesn’t need Barok worrying that an investigation will push him too far or that he’s not fit for the courtroom because he’s only had three hours’ sleep the night prior.

It’s better for both of them if Barok does not know.

This presents a particular challenge when Barok first takes him to his bed.

    ---

In which Kazuma finds emotional intimacy much harder (pun intended) than the physical kind. For AsoBaro Week 2024.

    Summary

Despite all his wishes to the contrary, the faint, silver lines remain: the sharp Latin script on his left forearm so unlike the gently flowing kanji of Naruhodou Ryuunosuke that adorns his right.

He wonders if soulmarks can exist for mortal enemies as well as true loves, for he cannot fathom ever experiencing the true, sweet devotion of a soulbond with Barok van Zieks.

    ***

Kazuma grapples with the discovery of his second soulmate.

    Summary

“Perhaps I may better illustrate my point with this: a Herlock Sholmes’s Logic and Reasoning Spectacular!”

    “Absolutely not,” Klint says immediately.

    ---

Klint and Genshin show up to the scene of a crime only to find that the Great Detective, Herlock Sholmes, and his partner in crime are already on the case. It goes about as well as you think it would.

Written for All Dogs Go to Heaven: A Klint van Zieks Zine. Rated T for some canon-typical crime stuff (cw: crime scene, dead body mentioned, burglary, home invasion). Otherwise, it's mostly silliness.

    Summary

There are two things that strike Mia as particularly odd about the application she receives to be the first intern ever at Fey and Co. Law Offices.

The first thing is the name on the curriculum vitae. It’s been a year, or just under, since she last saw it, but one can hardly forget the name of the reckless young college student who ate glass to save his demonic girlfriend.

The second thing that strikes her as odd about the application, of course, is that Mia is not looking for an intern.

    Summary

“I realized how I can help Nick,” she says. After months of feeling sad, guilty, angry, and more sorry for herself than she's proud to admit, it had finally come to her: the simple answer that will help both her and Edgeworth while they wait for Phoenix to sort out whatever he’s going through.

“And how is that?” Miles prompts.

“I'm here to be your new best friend!”

Miles stares at her. He doesn’t seem quite as enthused about the idea as she is.

    Summary

Kazuma cannot imagine this last year of his life without Barok van Zieks. He can’t imagine what it would have done to him if, after all the death they’ve both endured, Barok had died as well.

But he can’t quite bring himself to imagine forgiving him, either.

A year after TGAA Resolve ends, the British legal system is still in a state of disarray - and so are Kazuma's emotions.

This is 100% self-indulgent AsoBaroAso written for the 2023 ship week. There will be a chapter for each of 6 of the prompts.

“‘Grief-stricken’ means to be in deep sorrow or mourning, but then to strike also means to land a physical blow. How can the same word mean being hit by a weapon and being overcome with grief?”

    Summary

“I have come across a matter that might be aided by someone with your… particular expertise,” Franziska said, with the ever so hesitant tone of someone who had reluctantly acknowledged that spirit channeling existed but wasn’t quite sure what they thought of it yet. It was a surprisingly specific tone that Maya had come to recognize over the years. “Are you available for consultation?”

“Consultation, huh? I don’t know,” Maya teased. “The fee for consultation with the Master of Kurain is pretty hefty, Franziska. Are you sure you’re willing to pay it?”

There was a brief pause on the other end of the call, and then Franziska responded, “I am sure that appropriate payment can be arranged with Interpol.”

“I - no, that was - I was kidding.” Truthfully, she’d been ready to propose that Franziska take her out for burgers afterwards.

    Summary

Kazuma Asougi stands as Genshin had, bows as Genshin had, even draws his sword as Genshin had. But his eyes - his eyes shine like Klint’s. It's obvious even now, in the prison’s dim light; Barok had seen it the moment Asougi had removed the mask that had obscured them from sight all those months before. He is the perfect reminder of everything that Barok now mourns.

    Summary

“Please,” Kazuma persists. “Please, you have to know something about this. Can you at least tell me who might have done this to me?”

The corner of Barok’s mouth quirks up in a tight, cruel smile. “If I had to guess, Kazuma Asougi, I would say that you did this to yourself.”

Kazuma tenses at the accusation. His hand clenches next to his hip as though he has instinctively reached to draw a sword. His spirit has none to draw, of course, making the gesture a futile one. He relaxes, then, his anger at the accusation a passing storm.

“At least tell me who you are,” he says. “Why can you see me when no one else can?”

Barok tilts his head, curious. “I am the Reaper of the Bailey.”

    Summary

Wright had been feverish, and on who knew what medications. He’d looked pale, almost fragile, lying in his hospital bed, a wan imitation of the defiant man who stood across from Edgeworth in the courtroom and never backed down.

He’d sounded utterly genuine, in that way that Edgeworth had never understood and would never admit that he envied, just a bit. Wright was nothing if not sure and shining in his belief in his client.

    Their client.

"Miles, I need you to do something for me. Please."

    Miles.

Wright hadn’t called him Miles in nearly twenty years.
