Summary
By the time Rust met Marty, he hadn’t said his own name in ten months.
Longer than that since anyone had called him Rust. Morales, always precise, called him Cohle, or sometimes Officer Cohle, like Rust needed a reminder of which side of the line he was on: Rust had appreciated that. To everyone since Morales he had only been Crash.
Only two people had ever called him Rust. He didn’t like how easily Marty slipped into the number three spot, like it was waiting for him.

Summary
They kissed for the first time a week and four days ago, and that’s the main thing that yanks him back out of that place between ‘95 and when it all went to hell in a handbasket, out of trailer park jungle and dreams of dead women haloed with switch grass and ten-point crowns.
A week and four days since the first. Marty’s been counting.

Summary
Marty told Rust he'd have a place to stay after he left the hospital, and he meant it. He hadn't necessarily been expecting a week or two of recuperation to turn into a permanent kind of roommates situation, but Rust seems to have no intention of moving out, and Marty has no intention of kicking him out, either, for reasons he can't quite manage to articulate.
Which is to say, Rust has always been kind of prescient-- but Marty might not have guessed just how on the nose his joke about getting engaged was.

Summary
“Higgs.” Sam says. “What the fuck are you doing?”
“Shit, Bridges, I know you’re a bit dense, but surely not that dense?” Higgs asks and pulls back a little so he can look Sam in the eye. “What does it feel like I’m doing, hm?”
“It feels like you’re dry humping me like a damn dog while talking about our shared ability to feel each other die,” Sam mumbles, slightly disgruntled. “Excuse me if I’m a little confused.”
