Glinda doesn’t answer, instead she wraps her arms around Elphaba’s shoulders and they share a hug so fierce Elphaba is sure she’ll have the imprints of Glinda’s hands on her for the rest of her days.

Elphaba's eyes narrow. That feeling's back again, too, thrumming in the palms of her hands. There's a biting retort on her lips. But then she spots something else on Galinda's arm, just below her jewelry: pink rose petals and delicate leaves shaded faintly in green.
"You—what is that?"
"What's what?" Galinda looks down, then tilts her head up as she looks at Elphaba through long eyelashes. Slowly, like she's talking to a child, she says, "It's a tattoo."
