“Shit, shit, shit,” Vi panicked. She could take them one-on-one with her fists if she really needed to, but she didn’t want to try to dodge gunfire during the new moon. It was too dark, and the risk of taking a bullet was too high. Her boots pounded roughly into the dirt as she weighed her options: the strong current of the polluted Pilt, or the Forbidden Woods.
She’d never been much of a swimmer. Fuck it.
Vi catapulted herself over the makeshift barrier of petrified wood, and the gasps from the enforcers behind her felt just as ominous as the fog that filled her vision.
“It ain’t worth it,” came the distant voices of the enforcer duo. “Kiramman land will do worse to her than we ever could.”
