To be entirely fair, Zhongli had planned to fake his death. He would drop a fake Exuvia just as the Qixing called for him during the Rite of Descension, and he would let everything unfold from there.
That had been the plan. He might’ve started to regret the circumstances, but never the end result. Rex Lapis was meant to die.Zhongli wasn’t.
So why did he?
And if he did,Why was he awake now, somewhere he did not at all recognize?

After learning Zhongli's true identity, Childe is left feeling completely unmoored, and does anything he can to get the Archon's attention back.

A flash of realization hit Zhongli’s features, and he looked down at the remnants of their meal and drinks, face falling. “You only did all this because you thought…”
“Oh, really, you’re going to act like that hurts your feelings?” Childe hissed, voice full of disdain. “Even if you want to pretend otherwise, you’re a god. This is how mortals are supposed to interact with gods.”
Zhongli didn’t respond, so Childe continued. “What? Is this not enough for you? I’ve got something else I can offer, then.”
He grabbed the collar of his shirt, pushing it to the side so the junction between his neck and his shoulder was visible. “Apparently, in the past, giving your blood to the deity you were trying to appease was a common practice. More potent than food or alcohol, they say.”
Zhongli’s eyes widened. “Childe, you don’t have to do this. I don’t want to hurt you.”
“Too late,” he replied, slicing through the skin of his neck with a blade made of Hydro.-

Childe muted himself on his call and turned his focus on his livestream. “Thank you for the Starry Night, Saviour Sword. Thank you for the three Starry Nights, Scaramouche’s Number One Simp, although we don’t support Scaramouche here. Thank you for the Meteor Shower, Carrying Your Mom.”
As he sipped on his protein shake, Childe thanked his donors for quite a few minutes until he neared the end of the list.
“Thank you for the two Starry Nights, Watch Me Solo 69. Thank you for the eight Celestial…” Childe blinked twice, slowly, then rubbed his eyes. His eyes flicked to his monitor in an instant and he straightened the hem of his neckline, sitting taller. “Thank you for the eight Celestial Blooms, Zhongli.”
