The game-like System he is bound to just seems to be the icing on this cake.

(Knowledge about Solo Leveling is not necessary, but somewhat helpful. The Genshin Lore should be pretty well explained, since the plot starts early, as in before-the-war-of-the-One-Who-Came-Second early).

So this is what She believes of him. That he can fight wars, raise children, carry any burden without complaint. And the truth is, he would. If She asked him to drown Liyue, he would. If She asked him to drown himself, he would.
What are Yaksha-turned-children in comparison? If it gets Ajax the gnosis, then he will do everything in his power to raise the children.
He will do everything in his power to please Morax.
or: the summer Ajax, as his task in order to acquire the Geo Gnosis, becomes an au pair in Liyue for four-Yaksha-turned-children + Alatus, and consequently learns what it means to love — and to leave.

Its sound was clear and melodic, and the flute’s wistful song floated amidst the night as the Archon’s fingers danced upon it. He felt the noose around his neck made from karmic debt loosen. And the pain that haunted him his entire life faded for the briefest of moments when the flute sounded. Despite his moment of freedom, the Yaksha emerged shackled by notions of yearning, yet forbidden.
The Archon knew not that the solitary soul was eased by his melody. The Yaksha only sighed and let his figure ease in the wake of his fleeting peace. There, his eyes glazed over, and he caught a glimpse of the dusty teal cape basked in moonlight, billowing in the wind.
The Anemo Archon is the embodiment of freedom, his path follows his heart… Though, where now does his heart lie?

To be entirely fair, Zhongli had planned to fake his death. He would drop a fake Exuvia just as the Qixing called for him during the Rite of Descension, and he would let everything unfold from there.
That had been the plan. He might’ve started to regret the circumstances, but never the end result. Rex Lapis was meant to die.Zhongli wasn’t.
So why did he?
And if he did,Why was he awake now, somewhere he did not at all recognize?

Or, Zhongli not-quite-transmigrates into a modern version of Teyvat and has to figure out why the Zhongli from that universe (whose body he took over) has died, along with other things threatening the nation. With the other Zhongli dead, he's the only Morax left, after all.
And Morax is duty-bound to protect Liyue. -
